SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

Arts Assembly of Midland: Midland’s non-profit arts council and umbrella organization for performing and visual arts organizations, 401 W. Texas, Suite 508, 687-1149.  EXHIBIT: Art in the Park, three selected sculptures, Duet by David Hickman, Gypsy Rose by Ben Woitena,  and Texas Landscape by Eric McGehearty, Windlands Park, 1001 W. The Ellen Noël Art Museum: Regular museum gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday 2-5 p.m. Free admission, 4909 E. University, Odessa, 550-9696.  

George W. Bush Childhood Home: HISTORIC HOME: Restored to the 1950’s period when the Bush family resided in Midland, 1412 W. Ohio, 685-1112. Tours and gift shop hours are 2-5 p.m. Sundays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturdays. Admission charged.  

Globe Theatre: PERFORMANCE: “Doubt” at 2:30 p.m., part of the 2008 Southwest Shakespeare Festival, 2308 Shakespeare Road, Odessa, 580-3177. Admission charged.  

Keep Midland Beautiful: ANNUAL EVENT:  Trio of Gardens, 1-4 p.m., 687-7400 or 556-9949. Admission charged.

McCormick Gallery: EXHIBIT: Studio 3600 Series, featuring the two- and three-dimensional works of Georgann Harben and Delores Olsen, through October 1. EXHIBIT: Texas Photographic Society, featuring works of Yoshi Abe & Will Michels, through September 26, Allison Fine Arts Building, Midland College, 3600 North Garfield, 685-4770.  Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Midland County Historical Museum: EXHIBIT: World War II veterans honored, in cooperation with the Texas Historical Commission’s 3-year program.  Permanent exhibits include Native American artifacts, early Midland photos and relics, and early obituary files available for research, 301 W. Missouri.  Temporarily closed on Mondays. Open Wednesday and Friday, 2-5 p.m.  Call 682-2931 or 688-8947.  Free.  

Midland County Historical Society:  HISTORIC HOME:  Z. Taylor Brown-Sara Dorsey Medallion Home, oldest restored home in Midland, 213 N. Weatherford, 682-2931.  Open by appointment.  

Midland Gallery:  EXHIBIT:  An eclectic collection of art from around the world, Colonnade Shopping Center, 4610 N. Garfield, Suite A-2.  Hours are Monday-Saturday 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. or by appointment, 694-8761.  

Museum of the Southwest: EXHIBIT: Maria Hwang Levy, through November 2.  EXHIBIT: Las Artes de Mexico, through October 5.  EXHIBIT: West Texas Triangle: Barrington, Steel Steer sculpture by Joe Barrington, through December 30.  EXHIBIT: American Plains Artists, through October 19.  EXHIBIT: Taos Masters paintings, through October 26, 1705 W. Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, Library and Hall of Fame: EXHIBIT: Experience Geology through Nature’s Treasures, through October 30.  Regular museum hours are Monday–Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sunday 2-5 p.m.,1500 I-20 West, 683-4403.  Admission charged.  

Permian Playhouse: COMEDY: “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, 2:30 p.m., 310 West 42nd Street, Odessa, 362-2329. Admission charged. 

The Presidential Museum & Leadership Library:  The only museum in the country dedicated to the office of the Presidency.  Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, 4919 E. University, Odessa, 432 363-7737.  Free admission to museum members; admission charged others.  

Scarborough-Linebery House:  HISTORIC HOME:  802 S. Main St., 685-7368.  Open by appointment; available for rental for weddings and other special occasions.  

Sibley Nature Center: Center for learning about the flora, fauna, and natural and human history of the Southern Llano Estacado,1307 E. Wadley. Office hours are 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.  Call 684-6827 for information on art and photography classes.

University of Texas of the Permian Basin: EXHIBIT: El Interior, La Frontera, y Mas Alla, Interior, Border and Beyond., through November 5, Nancy Fyfe Cardozier Gallery. Regular hours are Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 2-5 p.m., 4901 E. University, Odessa.  Call 552-2806.  Free.

First Presbyterian Church: CLASSES: Fine Arts School, including art and music classes, 800 W. Texas Ave., Kathy Schorr at 684-7821, ext. 122.  Tuition charged.  

The Haley Library and History Center: EXHIBIT:  Permanent collections including paintings, bronzes, firearms and artifacts that exhibit pioneer settlement of the Great Southwest and the cattle industry, 1805 W. Indiana.  Regular hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 682-5785.  Free.  

Midland Arts Association: EXHIBIT:  Works of Eleanor Robertson, artist of the month of September, Monday-Friday, banking hours, Community National Bank lobby, 401 W. Texas.  Regular hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays.  

Midland Palette Club:  EXHIBIT:  Work by Mary Watkins, artist of the month of September, Monday-Friday, banking hours, Chase Bank lobby, 2301 W. Wall.

American Airpower Heritage Museum and Commemorative Air Force: EXHIBITION:  Internationally recognized collection of authentic World War II artifacts and memorabilia, including nose art, 9600 Wright Dr., Midland International Airport, Tuesday-Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 563-1000.  Group and student discounts available with prior reservation.  Admission charged.  

Arts Assembly of Midland: ANNUAL MEETING:  Members and volunteers are invited to celebrate the year's accomplishments, award volunteers, and award grants to local non-profit arts organizations, 5:30-7 p.m., Midland Community Theatre, 2000 W. Wadley.  Call 687-1149 for more information.

Fredda Turner Durham Children’s Museum: Regular museum hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday 2-5 p.m., 1705 W. Missouri, 683-2882.  Admission charged to non-members; free on Sundays.
