Arts Assembly of Midland
What We Offer

Subgranting: The Arts Assembly awards local groups funds from the City of Midland's Hotel/Motel tax fund and Texas Commission on the Arts. The granting process is very thorough and detailed; the staff of the Arts Assembly is delighted to consult with groups that need assistance in completing the application process. Funds from Celebration of the Arts are necessary to administer the programs and projects of Arts Assembly, including subgranting. To obtain an application for your organization, contact Arts Assembly of Midland at 687-1149.

Buffalo Basin:  A wonderful collection of vibrantly painted and imaginatively ornamented nearly life-size buffalo are located in selected sites throughout Midland, including HospiceMidland and Midland Reporter-Telegram.

The CityArt committee helps arrange for the painting of many of the murals in Midland and oversees the Art in the Park committee.

KidsAct: Once a year, we offer a chance for children to have an acting experience.  On a Saturday, usually in February, children in grades one through six have hour-long workshops, led by Midland Community Theatre's Pickwick Players, followed by a stage performance for family and friends.

Coordinating: The Arts Assembly plays a big part in helping local arts groups work together. We maintain a calendar of known arts-related events which runs each Sunday in the Midland Reporter-Telegram, in the Arts & Entertainment section, in the Midland Marquee column.

Corals: Stylized murals of "core samples" are painted on columns of the underpasses located at Loop 250 and North Big Spring Street, Interstate 20 and Rankin Highway, and Front Street and Rankin Highway, under the railroad.  This project is achieved with the cooperation and assistance of  TX DOT and a group of volunteers working with a muralist.

Art in the Park:  The Arts Assembly of Midland works with the City of Midland in placing select sculptures in Windlands Park. Current sculptures include Duet by David Hickman, Gypsy Rose by Ben Woitena, and Texas Landscape by Eric McGehearty.
